For this competition, the project in question is located at the end of Fifth Avenue leading to South Beach in the Miami Beach area. This is a “Pier-Museum,” which would point out to see and can stand as a “horizontal monument” to all the immigrants (particularly Cuban immigrants) who have arrived on these shores in search of a better future.
For this competition, the project in question is located at the end of Fifth Avenue leading to South Beach in the Miami Beach area. This is a “Pier-Museum,” which would point out to see and can stand as a “horizontal monument” to all the immigrants (particularly Cuban immigrants) who have arrived on these shores in search of a better future.
To this end, this 100-meter long structure also houses a museum where the personal effects, souvenirs and photos belonging to the new generation of immigrants are exhibited. These objects belong to those who came to Miami between the 1950s and the 1980s in search of their personal American Dream.
The museum should possess a basic layout that will occupy an area of approximately 2,000 m2. Competitors are encouraged to present proposals of a totally experimental nature as well as traditional concepts. Registration for this architectural competition ends 2 February 2009.
