Artec Snowboards is proud to announce the launch of the 2009 Artec Snowboards Design Contest. We are proud to be teaming up with the generous folks at Sony Playstation again this year, and the stakes are as high as ever for the 5th edition of this innovative competition.

Here’s the deal: we’re looking for artistic souls to take on our creative challenge and design a snowboard topsheet graphic that ties in with our progressive design philosophy and technology. History tells us the winning entry will need to be truly inspired and original, so be creative and unleash your imagination.

Download a Blueprint design template and get to work. After finish the design you can simply upload it on line together with your personal data. Carefully read our Blueprint design guidelines to ensure you meet our specifications. There are no limits to how many graphics you can upload. The deadline for all graphic submissions is midnight on January 5th, 2009. Now go create something.

Design Guidelines

Unleash your imagination on the world; you call the shots when it comes to symbols, colors and text adorning your board design – it’s all about personal style. However, we are technically and legally required to establish certain restrictions before producing your graphic. You will find more detailed descriptions below on how to prepare a board design that will look as you expect and that the whole process will run smoothly.

Once you have uploaded your design file using the procedure under Design File Upload, it will be checked regarding technical requirements and content limitations. You will be notified with an e-mail either of successful verification or of any changes that may be required before requesting you to re-supply your design file.

TECHNICAL PREPARATION OF THE DESIGN

Design File Requirements
The size of design file depends on the board shape and size that you plan to choose. Your actual design file will need to be produced in a rectangular size that exceeds the actual board’s dimensions:

Please supply a design file in accordance with the specifications set out below so that we can make your dream snowboard a reality:
File format: JPEG
Color mode: RGB
Resolution: 150dpi

Pixel file size
The pixel dimension of the graphic file supplied will need to correspond to the following based on chosen board's shape and size:
 shapesizepixel width pixel height
 Artec 4.3 154 1754 9478
 157 1775 9656
 160 1778 9827
 Artec 4.2 155 2102 9455
 159 2120 9738
Vixen 146 2031 8976
 150 2049 9213

We strongly recommend that you use the templates in the Design File Templates section in order to avoid any unnecessary problems.

Board Info Field

Once the final graphic file has been supplied, the rectangular shape detailing the board identification data will be inserted between the rear binding inserts as shown below. This Board Info Field is needed to identify board's shape, size and to track the board during production and shipping.

Running Base and Sidewall Designs

Your board will come with a pre-defined sidewall and running base design. The running base design is different for each available shape, whereas sidewall design stays same as featured in the following image.

DESIGN CONTENT GUIDELINES

Let your imagination run free when it comes to pulling your graphic together – but please note that all designs containing any elements associated with the following will be rejected:
  • Explicit violence
  • Explicit sexual content
  • Religious symbols
  • Racism
  • Drugs, Alcohol or Tobacco
  • Brands other than Artec
  • Trademarks or any legally protected properties

HOW TO MAKE YOUR DESIGN LOOKING AS YOU WISH...

To make things easier, you may want to follow these simple guidelines when creating your own graphic:

  • Avoid detailed graphics and key messaging in the binding areas of the board (around the inserts) – your mounted bindings will obstruct graphics in these areas
  • Most board graphics feature prominently in the tail and mid sections of the board
  • Think carefully about color: certain color combinations may not have the desired effect once they form part of your final board graphic
  • Remember that the extremities of your rectangular graphic shape will not make the cut – so put any elements you want included within your board’s shape outline (check design template)
  • Be careful when importing images or other files into your artwork; resolution will vary depending on the size of the file and image quality may be seriously affected if image resolution is insufficient – the easiest thing to do is to view the file in 1:1 zoom before uploading your graphic so you can see the graphic as it will appear on your board
  • Avoid having the board's outline included with the JPEG file – it will appear on the board as well in the end and that is what you do not want
  • There are various design elements ready to be downloaded with the Download section to be used in addition ot your own creatins. In case you need help of ready-to-use logos, backgrounds and design themes, dowload proper file format and insert them into your design software.
