Enter the exciting digital exhibition for creativity in illustration—the 1st annual Tate Publishing National Illustration Competition. Selected by distinguished designers, art directors and illustrators, the winning entries will be published in thEntrye 2009 Tate Illustration Catalog.

What to Enter
Any illustration first printed or produced between January 1, 2008 and January 31, 2009 is eligible.
Explanation of the piece is very important to the judges. Submission of entries acknowledges the right of Tate Publishing to use them for publication and exhibition.

Illustration Competition Categories/Fees
These categories are judged by the illustration jury and will appear in the 2009 Tate Illustration Catalog.
Each participant may submit up to three entries in either category.
Single Illustration: $10 per entry
Unpublished Book: $15 per book entry

Entry Requirements
All entrants must be currently enrolled (proof of enrollment may be required) in an undergraduate or
high school program studying design or art.
Areas of study: Illustration, Children’s Books, Graphic Design, Art Location: This year we are including submissions from students in the United States only. All payments will be awarded in US dollars.

Awards and Scholarships
Single Illustration
  • ‧1st place: $ 1000
  • ‧2nd place: $ 500
  • ‧3rd place: $ 250
  • ‧Honorable Mention: $ 100
Unpublished Book
  • ‧Offered contract for publication with Tate Publishing

How to Enter
All entries must be digital files on compact discs.
Single Illustration Entry: RGB (not CMYK) JPG format with a minimum width of 1500 pixels and a minimum height of 1200 pixels (300dpi). Digital files will be projected for the judges.

Unpublished Book Entry: Unpublished books may be submitted by a single PDF file or by separate JPG files named in sequential order (for example: 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg...). Images should be RGB files at 72 dpi.
(Winning entry will be required to resubmit text and illustrations separately at a 300 dpi resolution.)
No entries will be returned. No exceptions. Tate Publishing is not responsible for damage or loss of any entry. All entrants grant Tate Publishing the right to reproduce works selected in the 2009 Tate Publishing National Illustration Competition and in materials used to promote the catalog and/or future related promotions.

Preparation of Packages
‧CD: Send entries on compact disc only.
‧ Registration Form: Tape an entry form to the outside of each disc case. Multiple digital files may be placed on a single disc. Please tape all applicable entry forms one on top of the other so we can flip through them to verify the contents of the disc.
‧Entry Fee: Checks only. Make checks payable to Tate Publishing. Please include the check with your entry.

Notification of Acceptance
Only accepted entries will be notified on or before February 18, 2009. Complete credits and any additional material necessary for reproduction will be requested at that time. No additional fees are required. Award of Excellence certificates for accepted works will be mailed in March 2009. Accepted works will be contacted by Tate Publishing.
